V Air Trans Asia Airways has revealed the name of its new subsidiary, which is set to become Taiwan’s first low-cost carrier. V Air was unveiled on Monday, along with the budget airline’s new corporate logo and aircraft livery. The new LCC will use the symbol of Taiwan’s native Formosan black bear, to be known as the ‘V Bear’, along with a bold blue name on a white background. “TransAsia Airways is Taiwan’s first privately-owned airline company, and after 63 years, V Air will become Taiwan’s first budget airline brand,” said V Air’s chairman, Vincent Lin. “In the future, TransAsia Airways will join forces from the two brands through different strategies, allowing consumers to explore more possibilities in terms of both time and price considerations.” Expected to launch later this year, V Air will initially operate a fleet of two or three Airbus A320 or A321 aircraft on flights within a flight radius of five hours. This will include destinations in Northeast and Southeast Asia, which the airline said are “popular travel destinations for Taiwanese”. Firm details of the new airline’s routes and fares will be announced at a later date. TransAsia also revealed that V Air will be headed by newly-appointed CEO, Eleni Lung. “Eleni [is] armed with sales, finance and management experiences as well as familiarity with the operations of domestic and multinational corporations,” said Lin. “[She] will certainly lead V Air by bringing out its greatest advantages and providing consumers with a brand new environment.”
