V: Regarding the case of the hunting dogs tied up in Mouresi, this is the letter that Cecilia Veronese, who found them and was moved by their plight to try to DO something, wrote. The letter is addressed to the Mayor of East Pilion, Mr Antonoglou Kassavetis and was handed to him personally with the help of Florica. It was also sent to his niece and the Vice Mayor, Mrs Samara through the mail and it was circulated and posted on adespoto gr, zoosos.gr, PFPO, and locally on Taxydromos and Thessalia. "Dear Sir, I am an Italian tourist and last week I was on holidays in the Mouresi area with a group of friends. The area is really magnificent... blessed, I would say, with beautiful beaches, centenary trees, thick woods and waterfalls, lovely villages with architecturally interesting buildings, good food and local products. Really, one of the most complete and better preserved Greek touristic destination I have visited. However, we were all shocked and appalled to see so many stray dogs and cats, starving and in very poor condition. They were literally everywhere. On the beaches of Papa Nero and Horefto, at tavernas in Mouressi and Taxiarches, along the street from the Kissos junction to Mouressi, just to mention a few occurrences. Moreover, we were deeply disturbed by the sorry sight of hunting dogs chained and desperately crying and barking in the woods of the area. See picture attached (we put the food that is visible). How can tourists enjoy their vacation in front of all this? Is this the publicity that you wish to have abroad? The situation is disheartening and out of control: I urge you to act with proper sterilization, and educational programs. We run to the grocery store, bought cat and dog food and fed whoever was crossing our path, but honestly our stay was ruined. I left Pelion with a saddened heart and I doubt that I will be back. I discussed it with my friends and we came to the conclusion that we will not recommend this destination, until we will be assured that things have changed. Yours faithfully, Cecilia Veronese"
