VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT KEMRI/CDC RESEARCH AND PUBLIC HEALTH COLLABORATION Opening date: 2/10/13 Vacancy No. 101/10/13 Program description: This program is collaboration between the Kenya Medical Research Institute and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It involves conducting research and program support for activities related to malaria, HIV and other diseases. It is within this remit that the program has a vacancy in HISS 25 - Clinical Services within HIV Implementation Science and Services (HISS) Branch at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital (JOOTRH) Kisumu. POSITION: Nutritionist – (1 position) MR 7 Location: JOOTRH – Kisumu Reports to: Nutrition Coordinator ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must have a Diploma in Foods, Nutrition and Dietetics/Community Nutrition/Food Science and Nutrition/Nutrition and Dietetics or any other relevant discipline. 2. Must be registered with the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute 3. One (1) year experience in nutrition and HIV management including nutrition in PMTCT, TBHIV, Supplementary and Therapeutic Feeding programs, nutrition management of opportunistic infections. DESIRABLE QUALITIES: 1. Have experience managing opportunistic infections in the wards. 2. Have an understanding of the MOH guidelines on Nutrition and HIV, IYCF, IMAM, PMTCT and ART. Skills and Abilities: 1. Ability to provide services with creativity and flexibility 2. Excellent written/oral communication, interpersonal and organization skills 3. Ability to work well in a team, and be able to collaborate well with the Ministry of Health and other partners 4. Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken. JOB SUMMARY: The nutritionist will support provision of nutrition care and treatment services for HIV and TB patients in Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and referral Hospital (JOOTRH) Kisumu Duties and responsibilities: 1. With guidance from the Clinical services nutrition coordinator and in liaison with MOH, provide quality nutrition care and treatment for HIV and TB patients at JOOTRH. 2. Offer technical support and perform day to day nutrition related activities. 3. Together with the nutrition coordinator and hospital nutritionists ensure continued provision of quality services at existing nutrition service points, and offer mentorship support for nutritionist interns 4. Facilitate linkages across different HIV program areas at health facility level. 5. Perform any other duties as assigned by KEMRI HISS Clinical services lead person. Terms of Employment: 1(one) year renewable contract as per KEMRI scheme of service and a Probation period for the first 3 months. Remuneration: Compensation is negotiable with the relevant grade, based on educational levels, relevant experience and demonstrated competency.
