VACANCY: Senior Communications Officer Deadline: 19 October, 2014 Department: Office of the Executive Secretary Grade : PS-4 Type of Contract: Fixed term renewable (subject to probationary period of 1 year) Duty Station: Harare, Zimbabwe The African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF) was established in 1991 to build sustainable human and institutional capacity in support of Africa’s development. The Foundation’s goal is to improve the lives and prospects of people throughout the African continent. ACBF supports capacity development in Africa through grants making, knowledge sharing and technical assistance to countries and regional and sub-regional organizations. ACBF’s approach to capacity development focuses on addressing capacity needs and gaps as well as on stakeholder ownership of interventions, project and program sustainability and synergy of interventions with other development funding institutions. The Foundation seeks to recruit a Senior Communications Officer in the Office of the Executive Secretary. Within the framework of the ACBF strategy and business plan, the incumbent develops, implements, and oversees the Communication activities of the Foundation. He/she is overall responsible for developing, implementing, tracking and monitoring the Foundation’s Communication strategy, with a view to articulate effectively and communicate and position the Foundation as a key player in capacity development in the most effective and timely manner. A. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Develop ACBF’s Communication Strategy, policies and programs, coordinate, manage and monitor their successful implementation to enhance the organization’s brand and identity.. 2. Undertake activities that strategically position the organization by identifying and creating opportunities to raise the visibility of ACBF through planned media strategies (pressdemonstrated skills in the development of print, online and broadcast information, communication material, documentation and publication. Fluency in English and French is a requirement. 4. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relations with the media and networks with the ability to communicate effectively across functions and different levels. 5. Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain strong relations with the media, networks and influence at the senior levels of the organisation and interact with officials at the highest levels of government, civil society, international organizations and the private sector. 6. Must be self- initiating and be able to work independently and should have high personal work standards with strong organising, work planning and scheduling skills, capable of handling large volumes of assignments accurately and thoroughly without losing focus. 7. Ability to make objective decisions and resolve problems, exercising the highest responsibility to handle confidential and sensitive issues in a reasonable and mature manner.
