VALUES (INTRODUCTION TO SERIES) Introduction: 3 Months ago started our Vision with changing our stage . Stage /incorporate our Values as a feature . Leadership had to establish our Core Values Core Values: Who we are, DNA, finger prints Someone had to ask “ who we are”, core values would explain, define Definition: “A set of key CONCEPTS and IDEALS that guide a person’s life and helps him/her to make important decisions” “Important and lasting beliefs or ideals shared by the members of a culture about what is good, bad or desirable.” Why Values?: Values have major influence on a person’s Behaviour Attitude ( Look at a person’s behaviour and attitude, and you can tell what they value) What are your values?: - All of us have values, whether we are aware of them or not. - We live , work and act according to those values. - Look at a man’s behaviour when he/she * is put under pressure financially * face challenging circumstances at work * provoked or treated unfairly * ( do they crack, remain calm) (Example): climbing the corporate ladder, starting @the bottom Your values are the things that you believe are important in the way you conduct your daily life at- work Church Home Marriage Media, News, Hollywood, Family I AM AMAZED @ SOME PEOPLES VALUES!!!! Look @ how they ACT and REACT in life’s situations…… WORLDLY VALUES include: 1. Wealth 2. Power 3. Pleasure 4. Revenge 5. Fame 6. Vanity 7. Status ^ These values promote v I. Jealousies II. Resentments Paul warns against in Rom 16:17-20 III. Bitterness IV. Conflict BIBLICAL VALUES are opposite: 1. Kindness 2. Respect for all instead of Power 3. Humility instead of Status 4. Honesty/generosity instead of Wealth 5. Self-control instead of self-indulgence 6. Forgiveness instead of Revenge ^ Promotes v I. Peace II. Goodwill ( according to God’s will) JESUS HAD CORE VALUES Read mark 12:28 - 12:31 PHARISEES VALUED: Works Rituals Systems of actions and performance RELIGION They try to trick Him but Jesus answers them by pointing to His Values!! • Love of God • Love for others • RELATIONSHIP NOTE: Pharisees valued – Religion, Religious acts Jesus valued – Relationship Religion promotes a) jealousy b) bitterness c) conflict Relationship promotes a. forgiveness b. peace and goodwill c. love Therefore we are a VALUE BASEDCHURCH!!! Serves to indicate – WHO WE ARE Serves to indicate – WHAT WE STAND FOR Serves to influence the – BEHAVIOUR and ATTITUDE Serves to - OPPOSE THE VALUES OF THE WORLD Serves to- PROMOTE THE KINGDOM OF GOD - Peace - Goodwill - Love for all - Relationship with God
