VCF 35er ride report. Seven of us set off this morning at just after 9:30am for a 35 mile group ride. The promised wind was not as bad as feared, but I still stated Id be happy to break wind at the front of the group. We made our way down to the Trent and then back up again through Saxondale heading for the villages of the cheeses. With Nicola suffering from a sticky front mech we had a quick stop for a bit of fettledge before saying an early goodbye to big Jez. As usual the wind was never really in our favour but Newark shorty and David did a great job of pacing us along the route. The stop at Long Clawson as usual was welcome but also held a few surprises in store, apart from standing room only it was also full of familiar faces with VCF and associates providing the bulk of the cafés business. Whilst queuing for somewhere to sit and to place our orders we were joined by yet more VCFers in the shape of Dick, Di and Phil, whom were even later to VCF HQ this morning than I was and had missed the departure. Leaving the café our groups numbers swelled to 11 as little Annette Adams and friend Jean joined us. They had been out on their own ride planning to stop off at Dove Cottage nr Plungar but took a wrong turn and ended up at Long Clawson by happy mistake. The more the merrier. The cycling myth that is the tailwind continued to elude us on the ride back to Flintham and with Di Thorpe continuing to talk about the Beast of Beeston CCs arse that she had followed earlier I decided to split at Orston remembering Id left the kids with friends at Whatton. Thanks to all that rode out with us today, hope to see you all soon, maybe at the pub tomorrow night for a social soda and lime, boot n shoe Flintham from 7:30pm, all welcome. Until next time, Lovestephen.
