VENT POST: Yesterday a few members of our team went to Squirrel Hill to check out a report of a deceased dog. Upon speaking with the caller,,she explained she called Animal Control. Because AC is closed on the weekend, I called them today and gave them the information I had. Their response and attitude blew me away. 1) They picked up an owned dog with a microchip that was clearly being searched for (There are posters on every damn pole) 2) the police told the caller it was a raccoon when she told me it was clearly a dog with a collar..she was not stupid. 3) they NEVER checked the dog for a chip and clearly told me they DO NOT check for chips 4) yes they have a scanner to check for them and the 311 complaint line said they should 5) they DID NOT even have the courtesy to keep the collar of the deceased dog even just to bring some closure 6) the dog was sent to a landfill and I was told oh well...sorry after i said this dog had an owner actively looking for him. The man was very...whats the words...callous and cold...THIS IS UNCALLED FOR and should not have occurred. I filed a complaint with 311 and I think many complaints should be filed to change the procedure on how deceased dogs are handled..especially since some owners are looking as well as active lost dog rescuers. I am livid and just felt that this should be addressed ASAP since the warm weather is here and so are the increase in lost pets..any suggestions??
