VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: Good morning everyone. We would like to - TopicsExpress

VERY IMPORTANT NOTICE: Good morning everyone. We would like to clarify and explain what an Owner Surrender Agreement entails. Circumstances change and often people are no longer able to keep or take care of their beloved pets. Sometimes the owners will rehome their pets themselves or they choose to surrender them to our SPCA for rehoming under our rules and regulations. An Owner Surrender Agreement cannot be forced on any person and is signed under free will. Once the agreement is signed, ownership of the said pet is legally transferred to the Tierschutzverein Swakopmund (SPCA). This pet becomes our responsibility and we care for and love them until such time they can be successfully rehomed. This means we take over ALL responsibilities such as a feeding them a well balanced diet, medical care & expenses, flea treatments, grooming, exercise, playtime, love etc. Any further contact from the previous owners side is NOT ALLOWED. This means no visits, no drop-bys to say hallo or walking the dog etc. It may sound harsh but there is a very good reason for this. We are not in this business to care for people and their emotions. We are here for the animals. It is extremely traumatic for the pets to see their owners walking away. They do not understand why or what is happening. In their minds they keep on hoping their best friend will return to to take them home. A lot of time and attention goes into these saddened pets to comfort and help them adjust. Then the process starts to find a new home. Some are fortunate to be adopted quickly and some are not so fortunate and have to wait a bit longer. We currently have cats whos been here for 6+ years and dogs whos been here for more than 3.5 years of whom some will remain most probably in our care for the duration of their lives. We are under no obligation to update the previous owner on the animals current status or even when we finally rehome them. Our only concern is for the animals welfare and future. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES will we EVER give out details of the new owner to the previous owner. We know all the excuses in the book such as I just want to give him/her one last treat or I just want to see if he is happy etc. This only causes further trauma to the animal and we will NOT allow it. We do our own check-ups from time to time and generally have a good relationship with our adoptive owners. They are more than welcome to send us photos of their new furry children but are not obligated to do so, nor will we share any photos without their consent. The SPCA Swakopmund is run with utmost integrity & professionalism by a dedicated team filled with passion for our furry friends. We want to thank each and everyone who support our charity and four legged friends. Wishing you a wonderful week and plenty adoptions for our tail wagging and purring friends.
