VERY WELL SAID, THANK YOU Today we face one of those times in public service which is very difficult and painful. We have lost a colleague, an enthusiastic protector and a friend in Deputy Joe Matuskovic, who had also previously been a part of the Charleston Police Department family. Another member of our extended family, Deputy Mike Ackerman, has been severely injured doing the job he loves. To compound this terrible day, we lost Larry Britton, our Radio Communications Manager, to an apparent cardiac event after he had been doing his usual impeccable job supporting communications during the incident. We need to offer our unmitigated support to the loved ones of Deputies Matuskovic and Ackerman, and Chief Britton and their colleagues in law enforcement, EMS, Consolidated Dispatch, the fire service, the Rescue Squad, other first responders, the Chaplains, the Coroners Office, treating medical personnel, and all others who have helped in the response to this terrible incident. In times like this we all pull together. No ones job is insignificant. We will strive to do our best in our own work, in memory of Deputy Sheriff Matuskovic and Chief Britton and in honor of Deputy Sheriff Ackerman. We are all colleagues--we are all family. Be proud of our response so far, and do your best in the coming days to continue to show the world what it means to be a member of the Charleston County family. If you need help, reach out. If you can provide help, reach out. May God bless you. W. Kurt Taylor, Esq. Charleston County Administrator
