*VIDEO FROM NOISE DEMO @ HOLIDAY LIGHTS FEST* I have attended the Lights Fest every year for many years. Not once have the police ever blocked traffic near the park. They have had a presence every year but nothing like last night. OPD has been on edge but to show such force at a holiday family oriented event shows they are more afraid of public shaming and retaliation by rightfully angry citizens. Our noise demo consisted of hitting bats together to simulate the sound of the 6 gunshots that killed Mike Brown. Near the end of our video we drop a hint at our announcement for next week. I am truly grateful to those who showed up tonight. I knew there would be a heavy police presence but people still came out in spite of it. Hundreds of people were forced to not only stand and listen but walk past our demo, including the Mayor and her staff. Spectators of the fest were not aggressive towards the demonstrators. Some even came up and thanked us; others briefly joining in chants on the walk back to their cars. We look forward to tomorrows demonstrations. This is only the beginning and expect more from us in the future than only holding awareness demonstrations. The goal now is to take power and control and get out from under our local systems of organized oppression.
