VIDEO: My wife, even though she was defenseless, protected our older daughter from the knife and was stabbed repeatedly. For that, I feel deep resentment and extreme anger. Stabbing survivor Yuusuke Sugiyama, who lost his 28-year-old wife and 81-year-old grandmother in the Tumon attacks last February, was the final prosecution witness in the Chad DeSoto trial this morning. Sugiyama spoke of trying to defend himself against a knife-wielding man while holding his 8-month-old daughter, who was in a stroller that was hit by a car on the sidewalk before the knife attacks. Sugiyama was nonetheless stabbed, he said. He then heard his wife screaming. When he regained footing, he found his wife and grandmother lying on the ground covered in blood, he said. The widower said the baby daughter he was holding suffered a painful laceration about 3 inches long that required stitches. The older daughter, 3 at the time, suffered cuts and broken teeth, he said. Yuusuke Sugiyama said he and his late wife were visiting Guam for the second time last February. The first visit had been for their wedding four years ago.
