The new Kremlin crackdown on Russian opposition to Vladimir Putin is no surprise, but it’a hard to understand principles, by which the Facebook administration abides. Yesterday, the Facebook has caved into Russian government demands to ban the page calling for a protest in support of one of Putins biggest critics, Alexei Navalny. Finding out about the scandal, former US ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul wrote on his Twitter blog that the block set a horrible precedent of a social network’s siding with the Russian authorities, and that Facebook should correct their mistake as soon as possible.
