VIETNAM Whatever ones opinion of the Vietnam war was, the performance of the largely forcefully recruited US Army and Marine Corps has probably been underestimated. The battle for Hue was actually won bu US forces, but at such a high cost, that it marked the beginning of the end of the war. Rightfully I believe, American public opinion turned against the war after the battle for Hue. I was in Washington at the time, so I lived through these times in the political heart of the nation. I was actually called up for the Army medical a couple of weeks after my immigrants visa was granted!!!! Well, I failed the medical for a highly unusual reason, but I had elected to go back to the UK anyway.
