VISA ON ARRIVAL: as far as we can see this matter has been missed by mainstream journalism covering the recent visit of PM Mr. Abbot to Papua New Guinea. At the heart of this is the lack of a level playing field between Australia and the Pacific over visas on arrival for Pacific peoples, visiting Australia for tourism and business : thank you Paul Barker CEO of the Papua New Guinea Institute of National Affairs...this is important, and many of us, who were not on the scene would have missed it...it was certainly not reported by the mainstream media: Paul Barker : [Mr] ONeill gave a good passionate plea today to [Mr.] Abbott to free up visas...he said youll also expect me also to raise the issue of visas - and I wont disappoint...going on to detail the close historic, geographical and social relationship between the two countries, but that PNGeans couldnt spend weekends watching football, being with family etc without this cumbersome visa process.... Abbott said he appreciated when PNG was coming from, and said hed explore ways so that families could be together more readily...
