VISUALLY IMPAIRED STUDENTS LAMENT OVER STOLEN BRAILLE MACHINE AS THEFT CASES INCREASE By Kinyua Njeri A visually impaired student is having a hard time carrying out her studies after her Braille machine was stolen a earlier this week. According to the victim, a student in the school of education, her Braille was stolen from her classroom. “I was in class when I received a call from the Dean’s office. I was required to go pick some letters for our association,” said the student, who is an official of the Moi University Students Living with Disabilities Organization (MUSDO). On coming back, barely thirty minutes later, the lady was met by the shock of her lost Braille writing machine. “Now, it’s so hard for me to study because the Braille is all I can use,” cried the student. She told The 3rd Eye that the Braille cost her over Ksh. 10,000. This comes at a time when there have been increased cases of theft from blind students. A week ago, a phone customized with programs specifically for the blind was stolen from one of the students.
