VITAMINS FOR THE MIND by Ron Reynolds #3608 (Friday, August 1, 2014) Do It Once If I were to find myself talking to a young, new Advisor couple who are struggling with their finances and who have a multitude of other reasons for wanting to do well, what might happen if I made the following offer to them? “I want you to find one person – or one couple – who are having the same kind of issues to deal with as you; the issues can be wanting to become a stay-at-home parent, they may be unhappy with their job, they could be behind in their bills, with too much debt, and it should be someone who would love to find a way to take greater control of their life. Now, if you can convince them to become an Advisor, and if you’re willing to work with them until they make it to Gold 3-Star – without taking any shortcuts, and doing everything legitimately and professionally and in accordance with the policies and procedures - I’ll give you a check for $100,000.” Suppose I said that to you? Would you be excited about the reward at the end of the work? You’d have to be an anvil not to be, and you would join, you would learn, you would try and you would stay until you found just one person that you led to Gold 3-Star; and, so would my imaginary, hypothetical couple that I created for the purpose of making my point in this message to you today. If that person – or that couple – were deep in debt, living where they don’t want to live, driving what they don’t want to drive, having to go through all kinds of stuff just to make ends meet, then they would think about and be captivated by the promise at the end of the journey. If their desire to have the $100,000 was strong, if their disgust with ‘things as they are’ is also strong, they would go over, under, around or through any obstacle, any setback, any disappointment in order to find and work with that ‘just one couple.’ They would also make sure that as that couple makes progress toward Gold 3-Star, that they would match their progress, and why? Because of the promise that’s ‘on the table.’ Now, when the task is accomplished, I would sit with them again – as you would; I would make sure that they understand that by completing the ‘building of one person, one time, that they’ve proven what they can do, and by simply doing it again, they could make certain that a fairly substantial check would be earned by them – every two weeks! It probably won’t be for $100,000, but it would be the springboard that would lead them to an income that can keep growing as they kept working. With that kind of an arrangement, what would be the reason why any reasonable person who stands in need wouldn’t complete the same or similar assignment? Well, there are two reasons; first, they may not believe the ‘promise of what’s possible’ when you tell them, and number two, they don’t believe it will work, so there are the two fundamental reasons why the people you talk to don’t respond when you share the story. Your assignment? Get better at ‘painting the picture’ and by becoming more persuasive in your role as ‘messenger.’ If you grow, your business will grow, and so will those on your team.
