VO ASEAN-Japan Young TV Producers meet to develop professional skills, and consolidate the sense of belonging INTRO: ASEAN-Japan Young TV Producers at the professional gathering in Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam from the 4th to 8th of August, aiming to bring about professional development opportunities through a dialogue with professional TV producers. Our LNTV news team has the atmosphere there STORY: The first ever hosting workshop organized by ASEAN Committee on Culture and Information or COCI Japan – ASEAN Integrated Fund or JAIF and Vietnam Ministry of Information and Communications and Vietnam Television known as VTV Speaking at the opening ceremony, Chairman of Vietnam ASEAN COCI, committee on Culture and Information and SCI- Sub Committee on Information Trieu Minh Long said, It is recognized that young people will share the future of ASEAN, and young TV producers will disseminate information within ASEAN region, including peoples, culture and politics, and opportunities in trade, investment and people-to-people exchanges. First secretary of Japanese ambassador to Vietnam, Kentaro Suzuki said that, this is a first step to lay platform/foundation for establishing the network of young news and documentary TV producers, nurturing them to lead the TV industry in the future. The workshop invite four participants from each ASEAN Member States, five participants from Japan and one representative from ASEAN Secretariat. Among four participants from AMS, three participants are young news and/or documentary TV producers and one senior TV producer. According to him, TV programs have played tremendous roles in promoting mutual understanding and building confidence among Japan and ASEAN countries. During the 4-day gathering, Senior producers share experience of international co-production or domestic production. Group discussion on Opportunities and Challenges of Young TV Producers in News and Documentary Production, Group discussion on future idea of international, co-production and further cooperation among participating countries, Group’s presentation on international co-production and cooperation among participating countries and Recommendation by AMS and Japan’s Senior Producers According to the “Survey on ASEAN Community Building Efforts” undertaken in 2012, television is one of the most effective communication tools to promote awareness on ASEAN, as well as the channel to inform the public properly on the regional development. Similarly, it is a very crucial and strategic tool to highlight the importance of ASEAN-Japan dialogue relations and cooperation, especially to young generations. As such, it is necessary to create a venue for young news and documentary TV producers to meet, network, and share ideas amongst themselves, and for them to have dialogue with professional TV producers from other countries to learn their experiences, develop professional skills, and consolidate the sense of belonging.
