VOICE OF ISLAM BROADCASTER AND OTHERS SET TO REBRAND SIERRA LEONE THROUGH QURAN MEMORISATION COMPETITION Abdul Lathief Kargbo (in photo 1) is a broadcast Journalist working for the Voice of Islam in Sierra Leone. He read Mass Communication at Fourah Bay College. He is also the Director of the Foundation of Islamic Information Sierra Leone (FOISIL) limited - a registered company under the Sierra Leone Company Act No 5, 2009 company limited by guarantee without a share capital. The Foundation has so many objectives which among them are: advancements of Islamic faith all over the country, to establish and maintain Islamic schools for the education and discipline of Sierra Leoneans children, among others. He rang me up this evening and informed me that the Foundation will be coming up with a national Quran memorization competition on Sunday 13th July 2014 at the Miatta Conference Hall in Freetown at 10 am. Talking about the general objectives of the National Quran Memorization Competition, Kargbo said, firstly is to raise awareness about the memorization of the Holy Quran nationwide. Secondly, he added, is to create a database for memorizers of the Holy Quran and to develop the capacity of the winners of the competition. Above all, he reiterated, it serves as a breeding ground were they can structure their representation to International Quran Memorization in the world especially Dubai International Quran Award competition were countries all over the world showcase their talents in the memorization of the Quran; thereby marketing their nation to potential investors. High profile dignitaries are expected to grace the occasion. I admire this young man for such an initiative. Another young man behind the program, I learned is Ibrahim Talleh Bah (in photo 2) who is also the President of the Sierra Leone Nationals’ Union in Dubai. Bah is the Program Manager for this prestigious Foundation. These young guys deserve accolade. I have no doubt in President Ernest Koroma and his Government – he is ready to empower youths. His love for youth is second to none. “When the youths say yes, no other section of the nation can stop them. We are a democracy because the youths are saying yes to democracy; we are at peace because the youths are saying yes to peace; we are constructing roads because the energy and talents of the youths are behind it; the majority of our teachers, nurses, construction workers, mine workers and farmers are youths, said President Koroma at the Launch of the Blueprint for Youth Development in Freetown early this year. Power to the youths !! Kargbo, Bah, keep it up, bros. — with Ibrahim Talleh Bah and Abdul Lathief Kargbo.
