VOTE FOR LADAKHI YOUTH This is an interesting post. Most of you may not be aware of the fact that Jammu and Kashmir state is going to have its assembly elections soon. An elected member of the assembly is known as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA). One of the Ladakhi youths Skarma Jigmet had jokingly put a photo of himself as a candidate for Leh city MLA position. He was surprised by the response of the people of Ladakh. What started off as a joke has actually propelled youth of Ladakh ( both Buddhist & Muslim) to actively participate in the politics and bring the focus back on the issues relating to Ladakhi youth. This is what Skarma Jigmet had to say to the massive response that he got for his post. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It was overwhelming to see the responses (be it positive, critical or negative) and the support that you all shared (though I know most of it was only confined to Facebook only). I don’t know whether it ends up for a better cause or will just be another social media joke among you all. But the Fact is, THE ABOVE POST WAS A PARODY, a Kind of small survey of which I would like to share the details below. As I am not interested in politics but i am interested in serving the people, does not matter in whatever field I am. In fact I am not even eligible to contest but who is depriving the deserving youths who are actually 30+??? Few days back around 10 friends of mine gathered for a random gossip when the topic of upcoming MLA arose. How many people are serious about choosing our representatives?? How many students/youths are engaged in the process? Of course, 90% of us fed up of the normal banal politics in Ladakh which of course is bringing development but no effective, productive and required changes. We are not fed up of seeing the same people in politics for decades, rather we are fed up with the inability to make the requisite and essential change in the system. No one is thinking of the youth who are globally considered as the architects of future generations. As we see, at all level of governance whether it is in India or abroad youth are given special importance to get involved in the governance process. Those who did it sincerely are well renowned in the society with their selfless service. But for the rest???? People don’t even care and keeps on voting the same crooks again and again. We had the question...WHY? WHY? WHY? We all are well aware of the genuine issues mainly concerning the future generations of Ladakh. The Education facility, the Health infrastructure, Scholarships, Examination centres (UPSC/SSC/IBPSetc), Unemployment, lack of quality education etc are some few points that no politicians have ever considered improving on the priority basis. I will boldly repeat NO ONE has ever given the priority it deserves. The students Unions are fed up offering the PHOTOCOPY of its yearly memorandum to these so called representatives every year, again and again. We just see it as a waste of time inviting them to our annual gatherings. One thing we see is the lack of youth representatives in such government bodies. They have in a way made the age limit to lead a govt to 45+ instead of the actual 30. It’s disgusting but for sure we can’t blame the system alone as we youths have also began to flow ourselves the way it is reflected. It’s time now that we should start contributing now... We don’t want to prove anything or show any publicity stunt. But just ask the youths who actually got fascinated with the above post, How many of you will actually be there on the ground. I am sure that many of you are just passing your time, showing your fake concern through facebook. Whatsoever i have written....i have not written as Skarma Jigmet but as a youth like you all who have the capability to make the difference and who have the desire to serve for the wellbeing of our community.
