Montebello man arrested for telling pit pull to attack officer POSTED: 01/13/11, 9:00 PM PST | 0 COMMENTS MONTEBELLO - A man was taken into custody Thursday after commanding his pit bull dog to attack an officer that was attempting to arrest him, authorities said. Jason Maldonado, 19, of Montebello was charged assault with a vicious pit bull dog and possession of a stolen firearm, police said. Montebello police officers responded to a call of a man with a gun at Bluff Road and the Rio Hondo Riverbed at 9:18 p.m. Thursday. After officers located his vehicle near Spruce Street and Elm Street, Maldonado immediately pulled over, fled from the car and ran into a residential rear yard, police said. Maldonado re-appeared a short time later and an officer attempted to detain him. As the officer was handcuffing Maldonado, a pit bull dog ran out of the residence. Maldonado gave it commands to bite the officer, according to deputies. A second officer was forced to shoot at the dog, which sustained minor injuries to its paws, officials said. Victor Apodaca, 18, of Montebello and Kevin Placios, 19, of Pico Rivera emerged from the same residence and were arrested for interfering with the investigation. Apodaca was charged with aiding and abetting, police said. Placios was charged with resisting a police officer, possession of a stolen firearm and warrants, police said. The dog was taken by the Southeast Area Animal Control Authority, which will investigate and determine what action to take.
