Vendors Back in Livingstone Streets Street vendors are back in full swing in the city of Livingstone barely two weeks after the United Nations World Tourism Conference. Government had swept off vendors from the streets of Livingstone to provide a smokescreen during the global conference co-hosted by Zambia and Zimbabwe. And the National Restoration Party has urged government to be clear on their plan for the vendors. “Government should immediately state its clear position on vendors who are slowly moving back onto the streets of Livingstone,” said a statement from the NAREP secretariat. “It has been barely two weeks since Zambia co-hosted the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) conference in Livingstone. Before the UNWTO was hosted, Tourism and Arts Minster, Honourable Sylvia Masebo announced to the nation that the PF government would ensure that no street vendor would return to the streets of Livingstone.” The statement further reads: “The government should not sweep this issue under the carpet but should instead find lasting solutions to this problem. They should state their real positions over the matter because Zambians are anxious to know what stance government is taking in addressing this national crisis.” The PF government has been dodgy on the vending question but has had high ranking officials proclaiming that they can stay as long as they want. zambiareports/2013/09/13/vendors-back-in-livingstone-streets/
