Verdun, a World War I first person shooter currently in Early Access on Steam, copies real life 100 years ago in 1914, where a temporary truce was declared for Christmas. That means theres no shooting in this first person shooter game for a week. Instead, players play football, have snowball fights and compete for winning Christmas packages. Team Fortress 2 kind of paved the way for this idea earlier this year on Halloween where they added bumper cars and other non-shooting elements to their multiplayer experience during the holiday, but this ... this adds a whole new dimension of depth and scale. I really would like to see the fast paced first person shooter mechanics used for more non-shooting applications like weve seen from Portal, Portal 2, Quantum Conundrum, Antichamber and The Talos Principle. Unfortunately, Portal 2 is the only one of those that has multiplayer, and only for two people at a time. Garrys Mod doesnt count due to a lack of structured activities. When you can do anything you want, then theres nothing you really need to do. Still, I have the greatest respect for the sheer brilliance of this idea. M2H and Blackmill, congratulations on being the smartest game developers in almost any room anywhere.
