Vermonts GMO labeling law: The Grocery Manufacturers - TopicsExpress

Vermonts GMO labeling law: The Grocery Manufacturers Association and several other trade organizations filed a lawsuit against Vermont one month after the labeling law passed in May. The association contends, among other arguments, that Act 120, as the law is known, violates the U.S. Constitution by compelling manufacturers to convey messages they do not want to convey. Companies do not want to label their GMO products because they know that consumers will not buy them. If they are afraid to label their GMO foods, then we already know what kind of foods they are and apparently so do they. They think informing consumers what is really in the foods they buy is a violation of their constitutional rights. Just label the GMO foods and let consumers decide whether they want to buy them. Consumers are much more informed than the GMO manufacturers give them credit for.
