Very culturally rich weekend. Invited with my dear friend, and fellow celebrant, Kerrie, to dinner with one of her younger co-workers, a pharmacist from India. Opportunity to view his recent wedding celebrations in India on dvd and he was preparing the meal himself as he enjoys cooking. Wow! The Indian meal was sensational, he had spent two days preparing and cooking! His wedding, a traditional Hindu ceremony held over 3 days, with 2,000 guests, was a visual feast, unlike anything I have ever seen! Every flower real, and there were thousands of them. Horses, chariots, dancing, so many jewels and gold. Every one had a new outfit for each ceremony component, exquisite colours, decoration and embroidery. Was almost overwhelming. His family home for the last 350 years has been in the part of a palace that was initially used for elephants and horses. Massive carved, wooden entrance doors etc. Just stunning! Very interesting discussions as well regarding family life and society values. Most interesting evening :)
