Very few acres are needed to raise all the food needed by Alaskans - TopicsExpress

Very few acres are needed to raise all the food needed by Alaskans today Ken Meter, Talk of Alaska, Radio show. Population today around 700,000. There are two distinct problems here in Alaska. First is the rural/urban divide, and second the logistics to grow, store, and distribute food statewide and beyond is considerable. Solutions for Alaskans: Grow, preserve, and store more of your own food or pay new farmers(government subsidy) to get started. Either way its a huge leap of faith. First, because its way harder than most imagine to even garden on their own. Second, for small farmers to work through the hoops of established learning the government requires is difficult. Im hopeful the next generation steps up soon. Im getting old and its hard to pass on without the much needed experience it takes to be successful. I would say ten years as this is the time the government uses for a beginning farmer. Think about that. A decade! Im a beginning farmer at 58 years old. Something to think about next time you buy local, fresh, pesticide free produce from me. Thank you to all of my supporters! Eat Fresh, Alaskan Grown! And by the way send me your kids!
