Very few times in the field of international diplomacy do we hv a clearer win-win solution as we hv today wth nepal. We face 3 main problems wth Nepal. 1. Our trade wth tht country is lopsided. We keep selling them stuff but their industry is not developed to create a trade balance. This cannot continue or Nepal will not hv money to buy from us. 2. The Himalyan rivers of Nepal like Ghargara, Saryu nd Kosi cause a lot of flodding as you know. 3. China is also trying to develop trade with Nepal. Now if we were to invest in large scale hydro power projects in Nepal, lets say to the tune of 40,000 MW then we could tame the rivers, draw Nepal closer to us by trade, give the nepalese something to redress their trade deficit AND as an additional benefit we wud get cheap renewable 24 hr power for the states of UP & Bihar. As i said, very few times is the situation such a win-win one for both parties. Lets go for it, nd I think well impress both indians nd nepalis more than by doing puja at Pashupati nath. :)
