Very fun day with the first graders. It started early in the morning when they did the unimaginable . . . they ALL came in and sat down to write, write, write, and draw in their science journals. The pocket gardens have been a big thrill for them. I love watching them use new vocabulary correctly. Cotyledons, photosynthesis, and a whole array of plant parts. When I complimented the class for their great thinking one of the corkers piped up with, We did it because we wanted to make you happy! The nicest part of all was that they kept it up for most of the day. Gretchen Hansen has been coming in to work with my class once a week on water color painting to illustrate stories. Their book covers are finished and two or three students finished their entire eight page book today. It is so nice to have a very skilled artist to work with the class. Many years ago one of my students named me The Queen of Road Kill Art. A well deserved title I might add. The class took their pocket gardens home today. I didnt think that their exuberance would be much fun for a substitute. On the way out the door 24 giggling children gave me a hug and wished me a happy spring break. Now off to finish packing for WEA RA!
