Very happy to announce the presence of international acclaimed euphonium soloist as guest soloist and professor Shoichiro Hokazono at the 2nd Alcobaça International Low Brass Academy & Festival GRAVÍSSIMO! from 27 to 31 August! Shoichiro HOKAZONO, Euphonium, Soloist of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force Central Band. Born in Kagoshima City, 1969, Shoichiro Hokazono took first place and was awarded the grand prize in 1992 at the 9th Annual Japan Wind and Percussion Competition. In 1994 he completed the Tokyo Conservatoire Shobi Diploma Course. In 1997 at the Tuba-Euphonium Conference in England, he was chosen as Euphonium Player of the Year for his performances. In September of the same year in France, at the Philippe Jones Brass Competition he was awarded first prize for the Euphonium branch. He performed in February of 2000 at the Tokyo Opera City Recital Series (B→C). To date, Hokazono has made joint appearances with the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Tokyo, the Osaka Municipal Symphonic Band, the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra, the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, the Sapporo Symphony Orchestra, the Japan Virtuoso Orchestra, the Strasbourg Orchestra, the Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra and other performance groups. The premiere performance of the much-lauded Euphonium original work written for Hokazono, created with an approach toward the continual pursuit of the infinite possibilities music, has been highly-acclaimed. Hokazono holds solo concerts domestically as well as overseas, and also displays his ambitious approach in his performances with The Tuba Band, Brass Hexagon, Mr. UFO and other ensemble units. He has put out 21 albums to date (three of which were nominated for the Cultural Affairs Agency Arts Festival), and has been featured as a guest soloist on numerous albums. Hokazono has studied under Euphoniums Toru Miura, Kaoru Tsuyuki and Steven Mead. Currently, Hokazono is a soloist in the Japan Air Self Defense Force Central Band, an adjunct instructor at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music and a special guest lecturer at Soai Universitys Department of Music.
