Very pleased to announce that my PhD student Jon Keller, who defended his dissertation on the American prophetic in August, has been offered and accepted a tenure-track position in political science at Manhattan College. In this era of austerity, when there is such fierce competition for jobs among extraordinarily talented candidates, Im ambivalent about these announcements; one persons happiness is anothers pain. But given how hard our theory students work (often teaching four classes per term while writing a dissertation) -- and how few resources theyre given and the obstacles theyre up against in the job market -- I think its important to celebrate these victories, which belong to all of us at CUNY. Congrats to Jon -- and look out for his dissertation as he turns it into a book!
