The Auckland four pieces debut album Mode. Set. Clear. has dominated the local airwaves with a string of consecutive hits with Alligator Skin, Gather Yourselves, Another Time and Ammunition. With a reputation for an uncompromising live show, Villainy has scored international supports with the likes of Incubus, The Offspring and Billy Talent between extensive tours of NZ and Australia The band rounded out 2013 winning the award for Best Rock Album at the VNZMAs and began 2014 with two huge festival appearances at Big Day Out and Homegrown. Currently working on their sophomore album there will be limited chances to catch them live as they work towards its release. Black River Drive Black River Drives new song Quicksand sees the band return with riffs to burn and a massive evolution in their sound. Black River Drives forthcoming album was recorded over two months in Nashville, Tennessee with US producer Toby Wright, the man behind albums by the likes of Alice in Chains, Metallica, Slayer, Sevendust and Ozzy Osbourne. It was funded with the assistance of NZ on Air as well as a $20k crowd funding campaign through Pledgeme, NZs answer to Kickstarter. The 10 track album, also titled Quicksand, is scheduled for release in September 2014. The band drew creative inspiration from bands like Nine Inch Nails, AC/DC, Tool, Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots and Black Album era Metallica. This time around, former BRD guitarist Matt Stone instead played piano and synth, with Browne taking care of the guitars in the studio. Auckland guitarist Davie Wong fills out the second guitarist role with the band for their live performances. Ekko Park Ekko Park is a 4 piece rock band best described as “a ship captained by an Irishman and crewed by 3 kiwis” – singer Joe, a born and bred Belfast boy, travelled the globe playing music before settling in NZ, where he teamed up with 3 kiwi fellas. In November 2013 their debut album Tomorrow Tomorrow Today entered the Official NZ Album Chart at #15 and was the #5 NZ Album. Engineered and co-produced by Andrew Buckton (Crowded House, Midnight Youth, The D4, Clap Clap Riot) Tomorrow Tomorrow Today captures Ekko Park in its purity – melodic and sonic, thrown together with powered energy. The album features the singles My Crime & Simpatico (both going to #1 on the iTunes NZ Rock Chart) and Becoming The Enemy (going to #2 on the iTunes NZ Rock Chart). ‘My Crime’ came in at number 64 on The Rock FM’s top 100 songs of 2013, along with Top 10 spots in The Rock Chart (The Rock FM’s listener voted weekly countdown) and the Radioscope New Zealand Rock Chart. ‘Always A Fire’ the final single from the album, sees a May 2014 release in build up to a nationwide New Zealand Winter tour with London based I AM GIANT before Ekko Park head to Europe for their first Ireland & UK tour in September. facebook/ekkopark twitter/ekkopark soundcloud/ekkopark instagram/ekkopark Setting Fire to Stacey Known for their hard hitting brand of modern rock, Christchurchs Setting Fire To Stacey are the perfect storm of driving riffs and searing vocals. The band consists of five members, Arend Hoek (Vocals), Mark Hunter (Guitar), Zakk Rickard (Guitar), Ross Greig (Drums) and Hamish Collison (Bass) Recent highlights for the band include completing a successful first New Zealand tour in early 2014, supporting and touring with New Zealand greats such as Devilskin, I Am Giant, 8 Foot Sativa and Blacklistt.
