Very pleased to see monkey has won the LRC war poetry contest with the following cheery little ditty: If there ever was beauty in war, It would be the sun’s rays hitting my frozen cheeks. Freezing to death, Ice is my breath. Artillery is ours, Artillery is theirs, They shell us both the same. The young screaming faces, Like a black hole between a pale skin sky. The holy, golden light from the sky, Juxtaposes the men in pain who die. We see our friends decease, They rest in peace, They may be gone, but in our minds they hold on. Glad to see the maudlin gene has been passed on. He may not be destined to score the winning rugby World Cup try, but theres always a place for a poet. Secretly very proud.
