Very poorly written article of a fascinating story of 1700 to maybe a Million mummies. The article several times repeats the same information about groups of people with the same hair color, red and blond, (not typical today for the people of the area) buried together. In one place it mentions the possible time period of the “Roman and Byzantine period”, and later gives a time line, but does not “connect the dots”, that time frame was from 30 B.C. to 641 A.D. NO MENTION of the RISE of ISLAM to end that Roman time. Note that in 632, a few months after returning to Medina from The Farewell Pilgrimage, Muhammad fell ill and died. Before his death, most of the Arabian Peninsula had converted to Islam, and he had united Arabia into a single Muslim religious polity. Might these millions of mummies be “Northern Europeans” with red and blonde hair who came to the area as part of the Roman Empire?
