Very proud of a little team innovation that went down at TiC - TopicsExpress

Very proud of a little team innovation that went down at TiC today. We mounted a surge tank to the side of the 6MT trans in a GR. Worked excellent. Our initial idea was to attach to the floor pan just a few inches from where it sits now. However, we soon discovered that mounting it would be a pain in the butt and the lines would be very close to the steering shaft. Suddenly I had an idea. If we put it on the side of the trans we get a few benefits. 1. The trans is resiliently mounted via rubber bushings to the car. So that would mean less fuel pump noise transmitted into the cabin. 2. The location would mean that the tank moves when the engine moves which means the fuel lines are going to be doing a whole lot less stretching and moving around. That means less chance of abrasion and/or leaks. 3. This location is perfect for airflow because the air coming in the scoop goes down over the trans (thats how Subaru designed it, silly). That means its going to stay pretty cool. 4. Its tilted in the proper direction to compensate for g-forces under acceleration. 5. Its close proximity to the factory fuel lines means we need very little hose. That reduces chances of leaks and reduces cost. The sweetest part of the whole deal is that I figured out a way to use existing wiring and relays to power the whole thing. Eric only had to run ONE WIRE. That was a relief for him because he had to spend a lot of time figuring out the mounting. I had the easy job of saying, Stick it there, use those bolt holes. He had the difficult job of fabricating a mount to do such a thing. The end result is really awesome and Eric did a great job. Tony helped too I guess.
