Very rarely do I feel the need to make a long-winded complaint - TopicsExpress

Very rarely do I feel the need to make a long-winded complaint about something, especially here, but tonight I was just ticked off about my experience at the Cafe Rio in Herriman. So, if you care about that sort of thing, heres the essay I sent to them a few moments ago: Short version, the Cafe Rio in Herriman has terrible service, doesnt appear to care, and I may have anger management issues. ----------- Thanksforcallingcaferiopleasehold. *click* Awesome. Not the ideal way to answer the phone, I thought, but whatever. Maybe theyre busy. I had been craving some pork nachos, and figured that since I needed to do a little grocery shopping, Id pick up some nachos at the Cafe Rio near the grocery store. As I was walking out of the store, I phoned the restaurant to call in the order, and save a little time. I walked across the parking lot to my truck, put the groceries in, and headed towards the restaurant. Ive now been on hold for about three minutes. As I approached Cafe Rio, I could hear the music playing on the patio, and noticed that it was the same song I was currently listening to on my phone. There was about 1 or 2 seconds of lag, but I will admit that I did think it was kinda neat that the in-store music matched up with the hold music. I walked into the store, and saw that there was only maybe 15-20 people in line. Which for a Cafe Rio, is actually fairly short. I didnt get in line, but stood near the entrance for a minute or so. Hold time: 5 minutes. At this point, I decided to get in line, just to see what would be faster - waiting in the line, or waiting on the phone. As I stood in line, I started watching, and noticed 3 or 4 employees simply standing around near the checkout area. Occasionally one would go near the phones, or check the touch screens near the registers, but no one answered the phone. While standing in line, watching these employees doing what appeared to be nothing but taking part in a depressing and half-hearted rendition of the free meal chant, Id had enough. I walked over to the take-out register, and was the only person in line. I then waited for another minute before an employee wandered over to help me. Keep in mind, Im still on hold, and were nearing 8 minutes of nothing but Cafe Rio Radio though my phone. An employee finally approaches me, and asks if I had called in a phone order. I reply that I didnt have a chance to. She looked at me a bit quizzically, and I started to explain: I called nearly 10 minutes ago to place an order. Someone answered the phone, said thanksforcallingcaferiopleasehold, and immediately placed me on hold, without giving me a chance to respond. I dont know if this person was the same that took my call, but there appeared to be a look of recognition in her eyes when I said that I was the one on hold. At this point, she looked over at the phone on the wall, and I then ended the call (still on hold) on my phone. Whether she saw the phone call disconnect on her end, I dont know. By this point, I will admit that I was pretty upset. She didnt say that she was sorry, didnt apologize, or really anything at the point other than a half-hearted, what can I get for you. Honestly, at this point, I didnt care. All cravings for Cafe Rio nachos had left me. I didnt yell. But I did begin to vent a little. Explaining how disappointed I was that I had been placed on hold so quickly. How I had then been ignored. How once I entered the store I saw employees screwing around and doing nothing other than chatting with each other or just dicking around. (Probably could have chosen better words, but I was angry, and considering how Ive been in the past when Im angry, I think I did ok.) However, it was pretty upsetting to be explaining why Im angry, and in return, I was receiving a blank stare. To be honest, Im not sure that anything was really registering with this person. As I turned to start walking away, she once again said sorry, but then immediately turned to the customer who stepped into the line behind me, put on a happy face as if nothing had happened, and started talking to the next person in line. And yes, I was that guy walking out, that as I was leaving, I turned around, called out get your act together, and left. Usually not one for making a scene, but tonight I was that guy. (A minor one, but still a scene nonetheless.) And so, while it doesnt matter in the grand scheme of things, the Cafe Rio in Herriman is no longer on our list. Weve always been bigger fans of Costa Vida anyways, and this just cements it. Theyre only 2 minutes farther away from us, and honestly, their nachos are a lot tastier.
