Very recently, a thread had been deleted regarding homeless people. While Im not the person who deleted it, I fully agree with the person that did. I had responded in the previously deleted thread with something to the affect of, I am one of the admins for this group. Lets not allow this to get out of hand. I dont want to have to delete or hand out suspensions. A member responded with, is that only for those that disagree with you? That is not the case, at all. This group was created by our founder, Katie, to post things not in the downriver area anymore. People are allowed to post photos, links, and their memories. We allow people to post when their pet has gone missing, or someones pet has been found. We also allow postings of missing people from the downriver area. We frown on topics that cause heated debates, as we strive our best to keep this group family friendly. If you disagree with something someone has posted, please send them a private message, or, send one of the ten admins a private message. Our names are linked in the pinned note on the top of the group. I had posted the following information in the thread that was deleted, and I think its important to repost it: Hello everyone, if you seriously want to help the homeless, there are many ways to get involved. The downriver area has one of the best Homeless Shelters available. Its called Christ-Net and is directed by one of my fb friends, Debbie Grubb Petri. The Shelter is a transitional type. They provide sleeping arrangements in the evening, as well as, services such as medical assistance, and job placement services. Many times, staff and volunteers pay out of their own pockets to purchase many needed items for the Shelter. Things such as toiletries, disposable cups, plates, etc. They can always use your assistance. When you get the time, and you have an extra $10, please seriously consider visiting your local dollar store and purchase items in need. Donations can be dropped off at either Petri Bike Shops. For more information, you can visit Christ-Net fb page, or their website, christ-net.org More often than not, homeless people are not aware of the services available for them. Mostly because they dont have access to the internet, and, people like us who have valuable information to share with them. Please take the time to pick up few brochures so you can share one with a homeless person, when one crosses your path.
