Very sad to hear that Ray Gosling has died, and that so many will greet that news with, Who???. Im sure the wonderful, happy-sad stories of people and places he told in that unique, affectionate way in his radio broadcasts have something to do with my own weakness for the eccentric, quirky, quiet and seemingly insignificant things in life. Perhaps like other great artists of the past who died forgotten and in poverty, he will one day be re-discovered and appreciated. He was a little bit broken, and that made him all the more special but also always somewhat at odds with the harsh, impatient world around him. (Im not linking to any of the obituaries. All the ones Ive read make far too much of one or two sensationalist, tabloid things about him and too little of what was important.)
