Very sad to hear the passing of one of the great German - TopicsExpress

Very sad to hear the passing of one of the great German synthesists electronic music producers of our time. Edgar Froese.Starting out playing guitar in Tangerine Dream and moving on to synths, sequencing and some of the most otherworldly electronic music his back catalog is huge producing such delights as Rubicon/Phaedra, Stratosphere and much more besides. Still playing live right up till the end. His solo works have been hard to get hold of in their true form due to problems he had with Virgin like many artists owning the rights and royalties to their music so he remixed his works and released them on his own label. So I would hope now Macula Transfer never officially released in its original recording gets a proper release. There is a good boxed set anthology of his great solo works such as Epsilon in Malaysian Pale, Ages, Aqua and Stuntman, although due to length the tracks are split over different discs. His sound was very characteristic, pulsing sequential synth work, slightly ethereal and slightly extra terrestrial. I hear his influence all over in modern electronic music. It is in the Ultimae records back catalogue and all over Goa Trance and festival spacerock such as Ozric Tentacles etc. It sometimes just hangs in the air like a ghostly spectre which is very fitting now as he can haunt your record decks as you play a copy of Rubicon in his memory or whatever you prefer. I have a soft spot for Tangram and Pergamon. maybe its the piano. RIP Edgar Froese. Just dont play Zeit in a dark room while trying to get to sleep. https://youtube/watch?v=lP22cdJSQvo
