Very saddened to read of the death of one of my favorite actors Robin Williams. It has reminded me that illness both physical and mental is truly equal oppurtunities, and doesnt discriminate who it targets. it has got me musing. Since reading of his suicide I have seen people advocating for others getting help, which is great, but sad that it takes the death of a major celebrity from depression for people to realise its danger. I myself, and many of my friends have been at that most desperate time when it seems to be the only answer, and have even tried to end it all (dont worry Mum, Im talking about in the past not now!). Yet, as well as people suggesting others get help, I also see people purposely trying to upset those previously considered friends, or people having petty rows, and it makes me despair of the human race. Trusting people and understanding friendship/people in general, is something that often escapes me. But if people all look out for each other all the time, and not only when depression is bought so much into the public eye, the world would be a nicer place. One person can never truly know how another person feels, so PLEASE be kind to one another as everyone can be vulnerable to depression and something considered insignificant to one person can mean the world to someone else. I would encourage any of my friends who are suffering to find someone to talk to (and if I can be that someone, Im always around) I know from experience Depression is a horrible illness and it can be a killer. Rest in Peace Robin Williams, Its his performance in Patch Adams that I used to turn to when my depression was bad to see an example of caring. So please everyone be kind and considerate to others around you as you never know the inner working of someone elses mind and everyones life is precious whether you consider that person to be a friend or not! - Ill get off my soapbox now (and probably fall over getting off!)
