Very sorry to hear, via Geoff Mayfield, of the passing of Canadian jazz trumpeter Kenny Wheeler. I first became taken with his playing in the 70s through his ECM albums -- Gnu High a particular favorite -- and his playing with Dave Holland and others. In more recent years I belatedly discovered the distinctive music of Azimuth, his colaboration with English vocalist Norma Winstone and keyboardist John Taylor.
