Very well said, Ashley Ballard Morris!! While I totally agree with the message in this article, I still do not think it gets to the root of the problem. A culture still persists in this country (and particularly Cincinnati) where its okay to mistreat and abuse your dog because its simply your guard dog, your prize fighter or your man card, rather than it being a member of your family that you treat with love and devotion. Sadly, I witnessed a few of these owners this weekend. At the vet, an owner had a chain around its dogs neck so thick that it could have towed a yacht. In OTR yesterday, I witnessed (and subsequently screamed at) a woman hit her dog multiple times in the face in the middle of the street so hard that the dog was cowering from the blows. And lastly, two young kids walking a mommy pup that had recently given birth. I cant say for sure that she was abused but it was proof that were passing on this culture to the next generation as if its normal. Worst of all, all three of these dogs were pit bulls and in their current state, all three of them are far more likely to bite someone than your average, doted on pit bull. We need to target the source if were going to change peoples minds about pit bulls... the owners that are perpetuating this culture.
