You are not the only one that is ignorant of white ang pow as me, being a Chinese that has walk on this earth for nearly 50 years (Haha... not that long) has never been told, nor even received a white angpow in any funerals that I have attended. However, I believe I have received quite a lot of money put in common white envelop, use for snail mail, in many occasion as a token of appreciation for contribution made. I am not too sure where this tradition came from about white angpow is a message of asking someone to go to hell (die). Conveniently made up just to justify for the sake of justification? LOL!!! I need to highlight this as I find this funny but at the same time pointed out the reality that some may not be able to accept. "There are no chicken beef burgers or fish beef burgers.
