Via Daniel Rosen of Old England Grown New: While we like to think - TopicsExpress

Via Daniel Rosen of Old England Grown New: While we like to think that Early Modern clothing was universally stiff, encumbering, and difficult to move in, the reality is that for the most part, excluding radical non-functional fashions we have tenfold of today, garments had to allow their wearers to move and work in all types of weather. To a certain degree, these people did jobs analogous to what we do in the present, and in many if not most cases the on-the-job requirements were more strenuous and challenging than what many of us are used to with a variety of technologies both familiar and foreign. Give this video of the finale from Shakespeares Richard II from the Globe Theatre a watch and see how modern people move in highly-researched and largely hand-made approximations of Elizabethan clothing move, dance, and interact.
