Via my friend, Vicki Gottlieb, whose comment I relate to and completely agree with: I remember when we called the cops pigs in the 60s. They were not our friends. They could be brutal at political demonstrations. Its been interesting to observe my transformation toward those who protect and serve over the years. Like the majority of people in organizations and in the world, most are good people who do serve their communities; however, Mahers point, about the militarization of the police primarily aimed at the threat of terrorism since 9/11 puts tools in the hands of those itching to use them, is telling. We have met the enemy and he is us.
