Vicki Ruminski-Stafford toSammys Pet Boarding Mid October I had to make a very difficult decision and although it was heartbreaking it was something that had to be done. On October 15, 2014 I sent a formal letter to Athabasca County terminating their contract for animal control. This decision was largely based on the continued harassment from Athabasca County and a member of Council. Yes....its still on going. I did not feel I could continue a positive and professional relationship with them any longer. I am not sure what they plan on doing with the pets that are picked up. I know some have gone to the Edmonton Humane Society and some to the Boyle vet so if you do lose a pet I would suggest you look at one of those places. I have heard they will put this out to tender however, I would hope that the person who takes this on also requires permits for operating a business, has to adhere to the kennel bylaw that the county felt necessary to implement, and that the next person will give the level of service that this community deserves. I struggle with this decision mostly because I feel that I have not only let the community down but the animals. This decision does NOT affect pets that are picked up in the Town of Athabasca limits.
