Issued at 5:09 pm Monday, 24 November 2014. Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Shepparton, Seymour, Wodonga, Wangaratta, Traralgon and Bairnsdale. Severe thunderstorms are no longer occurring in the Mallee district and the warning for this district is CANCELLED. A wind gust of 122 km/hr was recorded at Mt Buller from a line of thunderstorms at 4:30pm. A wind gust of 100 km/hr was recorded at Shepparton Airport from a line of thunderstorms at 3:30pm. A wind gust of 98 km/hr was recorded at Swan Hill Airport from a thunderstorm at 2:05pm. The SES advises that rainfall run-off into waterways in recent fire affected areas may contain debris such as soil, ash, trees and rocks. People in fire affected areas should also be alert to the potential for landslide and debris on roads. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: * Keep clear of fallen power lines. * secure any loose objects in the vicinity of your home. * keep away from creeks and drains. * do not drive vehicles through flooded areas. * stay indoors if possible. * Avoid using the phone during the storm. * if you are outside, avoid sheltering under trees * listen to the radio for storm updates * switch off your computer and electrical appliances The next warning is due to be issued by 8:10 pm. Warnings are also available through TV and Radio broadcasts, the Bureaus website at bom.gov.au or call 1300 659 217. The Bureau and State Emergency Service would appreciate warnings being broadcast regularly.
