Victoria Windows Sponsored Merthyr Summer Darts League 2014 Season. Grawen Off To A Flier In Stunning Win Over Defending Champions In Season Opener. The opening games of the Victoria Windows Sponsored Merthyr Summer Darts League for the 2014 Season got under way with some really exciting games containing the odd shock or two as the double start format proved a bit of a stumbling block for some players. High starts, scoring and finishing were the order of the night as the teams set out on their summer sessions on the dartboard with some red hot tungsten. Section One. Farmers Arms “A” 4 v Farmers Arms “B” 5. These two teams faced each other twice in the “winter league” with the A side coming out on top on both occasions as comfortable winners but this time the B side had their deserved revenge in a hard fought game. Stewart Charleston 100 & Keith Westcott took the first pairs with throw over Wayne Morgan 125 & Steve Hamer and things got even better for the “visitors” with Brian Evans & Neil Roberts beating Rhion Evans & T. Jones. In a keenly fought contest. The final pairs game finally saw the A side break their duck with veteran Dai Jones & G. Price 100 edging past Neil Williams & J. Elliott against the throw to trail by one point going into the singles matches. Stewart Charleston 112 got the B side back in the winning groove with victory over Dai Jones in the opening singles leg to make it 3-1 in their favour but then a break of throw by Wayne Morgan 100 over Brian Evans saw the home side claw back another point. The third singles saw yet another break of throw as Keith Westcott beat Rhion Evans 100 to make it 4-2 in the visitors favour and then the first hold of throw duly brought the fifth point with Neil Roberts beating G. Price to make it 5-2. Steve Hamer held throw for the hosts in game eight to pinch a point back with victory over Neil Williams and the final point of the night also went to the home side with Mike Terrett just getting the better of Mike Lewis. Section Two. Merthyr Football Club “A” 3 v Aberfan Social Club “A” 6. The Aberfan A made the long trip to the Football A and did not get off to a very good start as Matthew Davies 108 away & Jamie Phillips beat Dewi Morris & Phil Green against the darts to give the home side an early lead. Warren Rees 180 & Josh O’Keeffe levelled the match with victory over Lee Morgan & Josh Moore in the second pairs and then a third consecutive break of throw saw Gavin Moore 100, 100 out & Luke Randell beat Lloyd Davies & Gwyn Jones to give the home side a 2-1 ahead of the singles. Matthew Davies scored a superb win over the Legend Ken Davies 140 in the first singles to make it 3-1 to the home side but then they collapsed quicker than the England Cricket Team on a boozy night out as the Aberfan side took the remaining five legs for a stunning win. Warren Rees beat Lee Morgan to pull the visitors back to within a point and Charles Davies 100 took the darts off Luke Randell to level the match at three apiece. Lloyd Davies 139,140 in a 14 dart leg win over Jamie Philips put the away side into the lead for the first time and Peter Emmanuel 120 away then beat Gavin Moore to make it 5-3. Kevin Downing held throw over Mark Evans in the final game to complete the win for for a delighted Aberfan side. Section Three. Colliers Cwtch 1 v Baili-Glas Inn 8. After going through two time zones and two overnight stops the Baili boys finally arrived at the Colliers Cwtch ready to get their 2014 Summer League campaign underway. The visitors started well with Geraint Thomas & Hywel Llewellyn finding the target in a hold of throw to beat B. Lewis & Viv Harding and then a second point soon appeared with Andrew Rough & Drew Bradley breaking the throw of R. Davies & J. Watts. The Baili then made it a clean sweep of the pairs legs with Matthew Quinlan & Tim Charleston holding throw to beat Martin Jones & C. Jones. The “Magician” Matthew Quinlan could not conjure up a win for the Baili in the first singles missing several attempts at a winning double allowing J. Watts to hold throw and steal the leg and a point for the Cwtch. I won my game could then be heard as Andrew “Dangerous” Morgan hit a fine 91 out, 3x17 2x20, in two darts to beat G. Jones making it 4-1 and 5-1 quickly followed with Andrew Rough in fine form to beat Martin Jones. Cled Jones blew hot and cold but still too strong for A. Beck as the visitors increased their lead to 6-1 just before Typhoon Geraint Thomas blew in at storm force ten to make it 7-1 in beating G. Williams. M.
