Video pick of the day. Slim Mc Vouty Gaillard might have been the coolest mutha to ever grace our little blue dot. The stuff of legend. A man who believed humor belonged in music. He was born, by most accounts, in early 1916. He entered vaudeville as a teen in the early 30s, and by the mid 30s formed Slim and Slam, his duo with bassist Slam Stewart. Are you hip to their big song Flat Foot Floogie (with the Floy Floy}? He perhaps was the originator of jive talk, having created his own dictionary of hip language he called Vout, and he showcased it in his unique vocal stylings. He was a soulful master of piano, guitar vibes, sax, and more. He played stunning piano with his hands held upside down. He recorded sides in the 40s with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gilespie. I can clearly hear his imprint on Louis Jordan, Little Richard, N.R.B.Q, and Tom Waits. Do you need more convincing? Check him out while you still have the tie-o-de-o.(time) youtu.be/ZKdrnTTDTqo
