GI FILM FESTIVAL Washington, D.C. - USA May 19 to 25, 2014 Dear Lance, In the Spotlight today is the 8th Annual GI Film Festival (GIFF), a cinema showcase dedicated to honoring members of the American Armed Forces. A veritable Sundance for the troops, GIFF preserves the courageous stories of American veterans and salutes the sacrifices of American GIs. It all unfolds in the heart of Americas capital city and is followed by a Best of the GI Film Festival event in Hollywood, California. All films submitted to GIFF will be considered for a series of upcoming special festival events co-produced with Cinemark Theatres, the worlds second-largest theater chain. GIFF also broadcasts a weekly series on the Pentagon Channel to more than 30 million American homes and to service members around the world. For its stellar ability to keep American troops at the forefront of public consciousness, GIFF earned the American Legions National Commanders Public Relations Award. In previous years, GIFF has brought together the brightest stars of American cinema and government, including Jeremy Renner, Senator John McCain, Glenn Close, Representative Rosa DeLauro, Robert Duvall, and Gary Sinise. GIFF awards are presented in several competitive categories, including Narrative Feature, Narrative Short, Documentary Feature, Documentary Short, and Student Film.
