Vijay Diwas (Victory Day) is commemorated in India each year, marking its spectacular military victory over Pakistan during the Bangladesh-Liberation War of 1971. The end of the war resulted in the unilateral and unconditional surrender of the Pakistan Army and subsequent secession of East Pakistan into Bangladesh. On this day in 1971, the chief of the Pakistani forces, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, along with 90,000+ troops with supporting Arms & Equipment, surrendered to the allied forces consisting of Indian Army and Mukti Bahini, led by General Jagjit Singh Arora. We salute the martyrs of the Tri-services who laid down their lives in defence of a grateful nation.
