Vilgam residents stage demo, demand tehsil status Srinagar, Aug 4: Hundreds of people from Vilgam in north Kashmirs Handwara held protest demonstrations at Press Enclave here, demanding tehsil status for their locality. The protestors raised pro-justice slogans and urged the government to fulfil their demand without any delay. We will intensify our protests in case our demand is not met forthwith, said Shabir Ahmad, a protester. Interestingly, Senior National Conference leader and Minister for Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution, Chowdhary Muhammad Ramzan had earlier told Greater Kashmir that his rivals were fuelling protests in Vilgam village of Handwara Assembly segment. He had said that granting tehsil status to Vilgam was under active consideration of the government.
